It's amazing what you can get away with, all in the name of research. This week I spent an hour in a jet flight simulator and it was excellent fun! Under the guidance of a qualified pilot I took off and landed from several different airports around the world, rolled the plane, stalled and restarted it, and even performed an emergency landing on the Tamar River near Launceston (and didn't lose any passengers LOL!).
It was really interesting to learn about the different devices on the control panel, and (extremely) basic principles of lift and drag. The visual from the windscreen was very realistic, but there wasn't a lot of time to enjoy the view, because I was trying to keep the plane level and watch the height and wind speed. Now to come up with a scenario where I can actually use this in a book...
