I have been on an emotional roller coaster during the past 12 months with a family member suffering with Leukaemia. On one particular day the tangled emotions within spilled down my cheeks. There were no words left to describe the pain of losing someone I cared about or seeing it hurt other family members. I didn't know what to do with myself, so I shoved the soggy tissues into my pocket and pulled the notepad and pen from my handbag. I described everything I could see and hear and smell in that cold hospital room. It might sound callous, but writing helped me through a difficult time and one day I hope I can use the information gathered to do the experience justice in a novel. To me it will be like preserving a piece of my family. Not a pleasant piece, but they are always so much more difficult to write than the fun pieces. He passed away last Monday, so I'm dedicating this blog to Lawrence O'Grady as he rests in peace.
