Thanks for hosting me. The lead up to Italian Affair has been so
exciting with virtual launches, blog tour planning and joining in with a variety of summer tours in the US. It is nice to pretend it is summer in the middle of our Aussie winter. But you have the honour of being my VERY first blog host for the launch of Italian Affair.
So I’d like to tell you a little bit about where my ideas came from. I have wanted to write since I was a child. Holiday
Affair was the romance I had thought about writing for a long time and the story actually came to me in a dream a few years ago. Work, life, family and career stopped me putting fingers to keyboard for many years. When I retired (young!) a couple of years back, I decided to put my story down.
Having my first contemporary romance accepted for publication by the fabulous Entangled Publishing was the first exciting part of the journey and then seeing it hit the best seller lists and get fabulous reviews was overwhelming for me. Suddenly I was an author, a published author and a bestselling author all in a matter of four months!
I am a panster through and through (although my editor is slowly beating that out of me!) so my characters lead me along. Tom, the middle brother in Holiday Affair needed to find his happy ever after and I mulled over his problem and
what sort of woman he would need to fall in love with, to complete his happiness.
Now, for those of you who have read Holiday Affair, you will remember Tom as a bit of a stuffed shirt, as one reviewer
of Italian Affair described him! Tom needed someone who was free spirited, who could tease him, but who would also
fall in love with the wonderful man he is.
Inspiration came to me through a very dear friend and I have
dedicated Italian Affair to this friend, Melissa Lulham. As writers we take very little time away from our keyboards and don’t have the time for pampering ourselves. My secret weakness for pampering myself is having a facial—it does
wonders for the stiff neck from sitting at a keyboard all day.
Melissa is a beauty therapist and one day as I lay back with gunk on my face and cucumber on my eyes, she told me how she had discovered her birth grandfather on Lipari Island.
My eyes flew open, the cucumber went flying and Brianna
Ballantine was born in that moment. Free spirited and with an urgent need to find a husband in four days, she meets Tom on the plane on the way to Italy. And that is where their story begins.
I adore this book. I have learned and developed so much as a writer over the past couple of years; I hope everyone enjoys my story and will ‘laugh, cry, and sigh’ as Amy Andrew wrote for my cover quote!
Happy reading and look out for Outback Affair... the story of the third Richards brother, later this year!
I would love to gift a copy of Book 1 in the Affair series, Holiday Affair, to a reader who leaves a comment below.
